Columbus museum of art star wars8/6/2023 ![]() You can buy a mini-guide of the collection to carry in your pocket for only $2.A re-creation of the Battle of Black Jack in which Pearson fought with John Brown. Parking (during the week) was free and the museum store is very affordable with a lot of high quality items. I needed to shield the light projection in many instances, but this is a very minor complaint. The docents are informative and friendly in a non-condescending way. There are multiple opportunities to engage with the art the layout of the museum is excellent and you could certainly enjoy the art in the serious way with enough to keep young children occupied. The best part was how the museum staff manages the experiences. There is a great portrait hallway which really inspires thought and reflection. Chagall, Corot, Pissaro, Monet, and the incredible 'Figures Round a Table by Candlelight" by Gerrit van Deurs. A few of my favorite paintings include: 'Riverfront No.1' by George Bellows, 'Portuguese Woman' by Robert Delaney, and 'Sunflowers in the Windstorm' by Emil Nolde, but there are so many more. ![]() It is small-ish in comparison to what you'd might expect from a city Columbus's size, but its collection is top notch. I think the Columbus Museum of Art is absolutely incredible. If you want to walk a bit, you can probably find some street parking. Sometimes they charge and sometimes, not. And a place to eat - which I have not visited. There is a nice gift shop, which I have visited. They have a new wing that sadly, I am usually a bit underwhelmed with- but that could just be a genre preference. (Not always on exhibit.) They usually have a couple of John Singer Sargent oil paintings on exhibit, and in their grand hall (I don't know what the official name for the room is) there is usually a lovely Chihuly at one end. They have a painting by Artemisia Gentileschi - not one of her most sublime or powerful pieces, but a very large piece that shows her hand. And every time i visit, there are a few of his pieces on display. The artist, George Bellows, is from Columbus, so the museum has a large collection of his work. I have seen a number of first class exhibits there. The Columbus Museum of Art has a wonderful permanent collection and it pays to stay alert to the exhibits they offer in coordination with other museums. Looking forward to their flower art come spring. The outside area is probably great in the spring in summer but not so much during winter. There was some other special displays but they had an entry fee and I opted out of those. There are also areas where the young ones can do hands on things. ![]() When we went there was a Star Wars display which was pretty cool made of fan art. That thing is fantastic! I loved that they had folding seats for you to use so that you could sit and ponder the art or maybe even sketch it not sure about that but you can take photos providing it's without flash. The displays while not huge are still very very good and there were things here I was totally amazed at like that 1100lb crystal sculpture. There is construction going on around the area and parking gets tight unless you get there fairly early and can park directly behind the museum. If you go on a Sunday then the entrance is free but the parking will be a bit rough regardless. ![]()
